Rosemary and Robert live with their daughter, Holly, in Christchurch which is the main city in the South Island of New Zealand.  They have a beautiful, large, four-bedroom home and garden near the centre of the city.  Rosemary and Robert are both qualified teachers with many years experience in teaching English as a foreign language.  They have traveled extensively and taught a wide range of students of all ages, from many countries. Rosemary loves decorative painting and gardening, while Robert enjoys reading, singing and DIY projects.

Homestay.  You can enjoy staying in a warm, friendly Kiwi home.  Your own single room or a larger double room, both of which look out onto a charming, peaceful garden.  All meals are provided. Rosemary loves cooking and is a great cook.

Our Home

English lessons.  Formal lessons are for three hours each day and are customized to individual students needs.  They can be held any time to fit around other activities.  Informal learning 24 hours a day is an additional feature of Homestay holidays, with Rosemary, Robert and Holly happy to help with conversation practice any time.

Activities.  There is plenty to see and do in Christchurch.  It is a beautiful city of parks and gardens and the shopping is great for overseas visitors.  There are many interesting day trips that you can take to amazing mountains, beautiful lakes, wild coastal places and fabulous hot springs.

How much for this complete English holiday?

Just $125 a day for one person, for a minimum 7 day stay.

But if you share a room with a friend there is a 20% discount for each person.

Trowland Family Background

Rosemary originated from Britain.  She graduated from London University with a diploma in Education and taught in London for a number of years.  She has traveled all over the world and worked in several countries, including Japan, teaching English as a foreign language.  Rosemary married and settled in New Zealand with her Kiwi husband Robert.  They have two children, Morgan and Holly, who are now grown up.  Rosemary has been involved with teaching English to overseas students at high schools for many years in New Zealand.  She is a registered teacher and has a certificate in Teaching English for Students of Other Languages from Christchurch College of Education. 

In her free time Rosemary enjoys cooking and gardening, but her main hobby is decorative painting.  She has taught painting for many years and won numerous awards for her work.

Robert was born in New Zealand and graduated from Canterbury University with a degree in psychology and a post graduate diploma in Education.  He too traveled and worked overseas teaching English, before meeting Rosemary.   In New Zealand he has taught English as a foreign language at all levels to people from a variety of countries, including Japan.  He particularly enjoys teaching conversation and will have you talking all night!

He enjoys music, singing and sport.  Robert’s other name is ‘Mr. Fix-it”.  He is the original ‘tool man’ of home improvement!

Holly is an 18 year old student studying science at Canterbury University.  She is friendly, creative and artistic.  She enjoys reading, music and sewing her own clothes in her free time.  She has a cat, which is lazy, but very friendly.
